Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

We would like to take this time to wish all of you the happiest of holidays. Enjoy your visits with your friends and family. I also want to remind you that there are also many that this is not a good time of year for. While you are all celebrating with your family and friends, we would also ask that you take some time to really talk to your friends and family.

While most people believe that more suicides happen during the holidays, the truth of the matter is, most suicides happen in either the Spring or the Fall. Many of those with thoughts of suicide, spend those holidays with pain ripping through their souls. They don't want to mar the holidays with death, they want their friends and family to have only good memories. They are trying to make sure that those they love don't deal with their deaths over the holidays.

What I would ask of all of you is simple. With every person you talk with and visit with, take the time to tell each and every person why they are so important in your lives. Tell them you care and that you love them and that your life would be so different without them in it. While you are laughing with friends, and enjoying those visits, some of those friends and family are just trying to figure out how to get through the holidays. Some are already making their plans to end their lives.

Share important numbers with people you know. If you are in crisis, in the USA, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or Text Free 24/7 a day - START - to 741-741. Many of us say, this will never happen to me and my friends and family. We used to say the same thing. Many of the most suicidal people appear to be those with the kindest hearts. The ones that are laughing and trying to make sure that everyone is having a great time!

Be the angel for someone you care about that you may not even know is hurting. Show them you would be so lost without them. Ask them how they are coping with everything in their lives. Ask them if there is anything that you can do to help them. We don't always know who is suffering in silence. Let's try to open up that silence. Together, we can Help Stop The Pain. Together, we can work to save a life that doesn't have to end in suicide.
